ANC 2700

You guessed it, with an ANC (absolute neutrophil count) of 2700 we are back on oral chemo. Presley and I both needed the 24 day break. I know I should be worried that for 24 days she was on no chemo and that her numbers are too high now. I get to worry when her numbers are too high and too low. You know that scary word "relapse". I needed that break to see a small glimpse of my sweet girl coming back. Presley has wanted to play and played she did. My heart has been so full. She wants to be creative, to play with her dolls and to play with her brother. Brother really needed this time. His sister has been too sick to really want to play with him in the past year. He loves when she plays with him. I love it too.
Presley will be back on chemo only taking 50% of the original dose. It's a guessing game in maintenance. The Doctors don't want her ANC to be above 1500 or below 500. The goal is to keep her counts suppressed. Her cancer is/was in her marrow were cell growth begins. We want healthy cell grown but we also know we don't want it to be too much or the possibility of relapse could happen. When she was diagnosed her WBC (White Blood Count) was 34,000. Her marrow was full of blasts and showing in her WBC. Yikes. Today it was 2,700.
Her ANC is part of her WBC it is the part that tells us how well she can fight off infection.
The home health nurse came today to draw blood from her port and send the blood in for counts. We are so thankful for great home health nurses..okay we usually just see one! Thanks Danika for all you do.
I'm thankful her numbers have recovered but a a little sad to see her back on chemo. I think we are down to 15 more months and then she will get to see what it feels like to be off chemo forever. Counting down the months!
