We planned a short trip to Park City, Utah. Park City is only a 25 min drive from our place. I don't know why we don't do this weekly. Oh yea its a resort town and winter sports are not cheap. We stayed at the Marriott's Summit Watch- Ski -In and Out. Its always a nice surprise when you book something online and then show up and find its much better than you had in your mind. This was one of those trips. The setting was beautiful. The skies were mostly blue and the weather was just perfect. We saw the sun shine and that was worth it. The first day we checked into our hotel and then took the kids Sledding. We went to Gorgoza Park in Park City. This is a great place to take the kids sledding. They also have a ski hill for the kids (bunny hill) and mini snowmobiles (5 years and older). We each got a 2 hour tubing pass and enjoyed tubing together. Adventurous daddy always breaking the rules...and leaving me in the dust to get yelled at. One example of "disconnecting", you can go down the hill together connected but you cant push one down faster than the other. Oops. The kids loved tubing and mom and dad loved riding "magic carpet ride" and not having to carry the kids and tubes up the hill.
We then went back to the hotel where we got ready for dinner. We took a walk down Main Street. The hotel is set up little a village and is part of the shopping on main street. So we walked over the bridge, and did a little window shopping. The setting was perfect. Everything was in walking distance. After dinner we were all ready for some down time. With no naps for the kids, they were tired and ready for bed. We watched the Olympics and enjoyed the evening as a family. The kids always love going somewhere new.

The kids woke up pretty early and enjoyed watching Disney Jr. We don't have cable so this is a real treat to watch TV. We made egg and sausage breakfast sandwiches and packed up. We only stayed one night.
Daddy took the kids home for a real nap! I stayed in Park City hit the slopes. Its been 5 years and my legs are feeling it. Note to self, don't wait 5 years again until you ski again. If I had to pick my favorite sport...skiing would be it. I like to be athletic and wish I played more sports. I will give anything a try and have fun, but skiing is my favorite. The love for this sport started when I was in 6 grade, while living in Bend, Oregon. If we had good grades during the cold months we could ski on Fridays at Mt Bachelor. I love skiing and picked it right up. We then moved to Colorado and I continued to ski. I have always lived pretty close to the mountains.
I skied hard today. I skied alone, something I might not have done 10 years ago. It felt good. The quiet rides up the lifts were much needed. Its hard to think straight when you have a 4 and a 2 year old with you all the time. I'm not one that gets a lot of breaks from my kids. I honestly can't remember the last time I've have more than a trip to the grocery store to myself. I sometimes envy those that get regular breaks from their kids. It never does any good to envy so I quickly get it out of my mind. Everyone has different situations. It's something I high hold on the important list, being home with my kids. I love my children but having a 4 and 2 year old minion with you all the time makes for a crazy lady. I know this will change soon enough and I will look back on these days and maybe laugh. Not today, I'm tired, they wear me out.
It took me a few runs to get back into the swing of things. I was a SPORE today! that is an acronym for a special person on rental equipment. It was easily identified with the blue painters take and the sharpie marker with my name written on it and then attached to the tip of my ski. I rented gear today (my skis and boots are in the storage unit) and that always takes a few runs to figure out new gear and make adjustments. I forgot my goggles and my ski pants barley fit. I was much skinnier 5 years ago I stayed close to base and skied the blue runs today. I enjoy the double fall lines and not many moguls. Not much Pow today...meaning fresh snow. I always laugh when I hear that word being used. The best laugh I got today was a guy wearing boots and a blue jacket...that's it! I'm sure his motto today was, pants? who needs them? I'm sure by the afternoon when it got a little colder he changed his mind. Only a few Texas Gore-Tex...those in jeans or camo hunting gear! I could get used to being a ski bum! My legs were tired by 3pm. Jello really. I even crashed twice. Thank goodness it was not a Yard Sale. Crashing usually never happens. That was my sign it was "Quiting-Time". Followed that trail back to the hotel. I love these type of resorts where you ski in and out! The views and setting were breathtaking. I took a few iPhone photos...they just don't give it justice. I returned the skis and headed home. The drive home was quiet. My legs are tired but my mind got a little rest today.
I might complain about the air quality here in SLC but man that drive to the ski resorts can't be beat. 25 minutes and I was home. The drive to the ski resorts in Colorado stopped me from going skiing more often. You spend at least 3-6 or more hours a day just driving. Anymore in Colorado you have to stay in the mountains to get a good skiing day in.
Can you spot the blue tape and my name?? SPORE! |
IPhone camera didn't capture the real beauty of this shot. I stopped to take in this view. |
