I can't get enough of that smile! Happy girl even at clinic. She is my hero! |
We finally got to see Doc Fluchel! We haven't seen him for 1.5 months. That's a long time to not see your doctor! We have seen a doctor but just not "our" doctor. It felt good to ask my million questions!
Doctor told us to expect a hospital stay in the next few weeks, so then if it does happen we are prepared and if not, then we are pleasantly surprised! Presley's blood work looked pretty good today, but usually the numbers don't tank until about 7-10 days from getting chemo. Tomorrow will be 7 days. I will be keeping Presley locked up for the next few days! Yeah for us :( The doctors expect her numbers to really drop. The Doxo (chemo) that she got last Thursday really targets those red and white blood cells but the steroids make ANC high. So today her ANC was 2,300 but its a "false" number. As I write this..I'm thinking..ONE MORE DOSE, then a week off! Of all the nasty things I make my child take Dexamethasone (steroids) is the one I despise the most, but also have been told is a fierce warrior in the fight against leukemia. My sweet little girl is just not the same on steroids. They always promise me that she will come back and be a sweet girl again but it's just no fun. SO thankful for a week off. That first 29 days of steroids is crazy. A newly diagnosed child and the docs write you a prescription and you just do what your told to do. Who knew steroids for 29 days would really do that much. Doc. Fluchel and I laughed about that today. Yes.. I laughed, I'm making progress! He said yeah I think we know we only have that first month to give steroids like that because you moms would never let us get away with that much at any other point. Just think, 29 days of steroids, one dose of PEG and 4 doses of Vinc got her in remission. Steroids are the key to remission and really getting rid of those leukemia cells. Now I know why they kept asking me if we missed a dose and were so concerned about that drug. One day I even said... we only have one dose left, can we just stop? Fluchel quickly said...NO way. Enough about steroids!
Showing the Doc my "gait"...chemo and steroids cause so much to go on with walking! |
So happy to have Doc Fluchel back! |
Presley really didn't want to ride her bike to clinic today. This is just one way to know she is not feeling up to her normal self. But I encouraged it and I'm glad I did. So thankful for that little pink bike...who knew that bike would be such a key later in life for her. Access/de-accessing was much better today. Grandpa Bringhurst was able to come again today to clinic, thanks Grandpa!
After clinic we met Crew and Paul at the park for lunch. The school lunch program gives lunches out at the local parks and we have enjoyed taking the kids to lunch at the park this summer. While Presley was getting her lunch one of the ladies asked how Presley was doing and I said," today was clinic. A sweet lady looked right at us and the bald head gave it all away. I couldn't put my finger on it right away but it didn't take long for me to realize that sweet lady was Doc Fluchels wife. Her smile and her eyes told me she knew who we were too. After a few minutes Presley and I introduced ourselves and asked if she was who we thought. Yes! We got to talk to her. She is also a Doc at PCMC. She is a cardiologist. We learned of this on Thursday during Presley's EKG and echo. She was with her oldest son. We were able to show him the picture we took at clinic today with his dad and Presley! That made our day. So thankful for such a wonderful doctor and to get to meet his wife and son was such a treat. Thankful that he has spent his life becoming a specialist in the field that we needed!
