We took a nice bike ride
today enjoying the locals favorite, Emigration Canyon. It's a moderate grade, 8
mile bike ride up the canyon just east of SLC. It begins at the southern part
of University of Utah and the right by the Hoogle Zoo The weather was perfect
and the scenery was beautiful. Long before a roadway curved up the canyon,
Emigration was the chosen route for pioneer travelers. Brigham Young and the
Pioneers Company descended Emigration Canyon in 1847 to culminate their
westward trek into the Great Salt Lake. It was from near the canyons mouth that
Brigham Young purportedly looked out over the sprawling valley and said
"This is the place" the words after which the state park is
named. On our road bikes we climbed the 8 mile hill, Paul pulling Crew in the trailer. We
made it to the top and started our descend. It was freezing on the way
down with a head wind and the mountain air. The 8 mile descend was
fast. We stopped at the famous Ruth's Dinner. It is the second oldest
operating restaurant in Utah. It was opened in 1930 and started in an old
trolley car. They are famous for its comfort food and the menu
is a collection of family favorites. The mile high biscuits are more than
worth the stop. We grabbed a quick bite to eat while enjoying the
beautiful scenery that Wasatch mountains have to offer. We love to
explore and find good food on the way. Today's ride was perfect, the
exercise is much needed.
