On Day 29 during our clinic visit Mark Fluchel (Presley's Hematology Oncology Doctor) told us that we would get a call on Friday or Monday with the results from the Bone marrow Aspirate. He also said that if it was good news we would hear from Kristen (the nurse), and if it was bad news we would hear from Doctor Fluchel himself. On Monday morning I answered the "unknown" call, and on the other end was Mark Fluchel, my heart skipped a few beats maybe even had a panic attack. He then went on to say that the results were back with a long pause and than said "It's good news". PHEW, what a relief to hear. Presley's Day 29 bone marrow results showed "no traceable" amount of leukemia cells. Remission! When Leukemia is diagnosed, there are usually about 100 billion leukemia cells in the body. Killing 99% of these leukemia cells during the first 29 days (induction phase) is enough to achieve a remission, but it still leaves about 100 million leukemia cells in the body. This explains why we continue to do intensive treatments for 2 years of chemotherapy to help destroy the remaining caner cells. At this point we know that Presley will be treated under the "standard-risk" group.
I had a smile on my face all day. Presley too could feel my excitement. I have prayed and waited for this today to come. I thank each and everyone of you for your prayers. We made it! Keep fighting baby girl, you are are so brave and so so strong we still have 100 million of those cancer cells to fight!
